Couch love/hate

I am currently the proud owner of a couple of ugly couches.
Oh how desperate I am to replace or recover them.
I have been thinking about making some slip covers as they do have good shape... but haven't quite worked up the courage.
Sorry.... they are too embarrasing ugly to share, so instead I will share some that are a little lot more charming.

Hope you have all had a lovely long weekend
 I love reading your
Kym X

  1. I hear you! I have just farwelled some floral ones after a big debate with myself about slipcovers. In the end the springs were no good. I would like something like photos 2 and 3. It's all too hard so I am putting off until after our trip. Have a great day.

  2. What have you got to loose, give the slip covers a go !( Says she who would find the prospect of sewing a slipcover daunting).

  3. Beautiful photos Kym! I have an ugly couch too! Not only is it ugly but it is also uncomfortable. I am trying to decide what to do with mine. I can fix the uncomfortable problem by having foam cusions made and I can fix the ugly by making slipcovers but it seems like a lot of work and I am psyching myself up to do it! xx

  4. Kym,
I say go for it and try the slip covered look on the old set. You can buy them at a great price now ah days!! or try your hand at making them. My friend who does not sew made a slip cover for a very large chair, it was surprisingly great!!

That perfectly imperfect look works well with a pulled together European chic in the best flea market style.

you can almost buy any coverlet and use it for the fabric, as I am always trying to cut corners the rewards a great and the comments will wow you!

Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment, you were way to kind with your comments.

I will be back soon to snoop around your place, post that sofa when you decide what to do with it :)

  5. Hi Kym. I just realised I had forgotten to follow you. I am now...lucky no. 13! I'm in the market for new couches. Mine are ok (very neutral) though like Nellie's they aren't comfortable and hubby has had enough! I'm looking to replace my matching 2 seaters with one vintage leather sofa and two arm chairs. I'm gonna post some pics of my living room this week. Would love your thoughts when I do.

  6. HI Kym-
Let me know if you sew a slipcover, I told my girlfriend she should give it a try! I'm in love with all your inspirational photo's! Have a wonderful Wednesday!

  7. morning- just found you over at lovely Rubies Place- and if you decide to 'slip cover' the ones you can't show us- let me know how you go as i am thinking i need to re-do a few....i just end up on the 'smaller' jobs happily to long to do the sofa's!!
maybe i'll be lucky follower 14!

  8. those winged back chairs are fabulous! love them

  9. Oh such gorgeous pics Kym! I share your 'ugly couch' pain.... it is sounding like there are a few of us who would love to slipcover our ugly sofas, maybe we should have a working bee:) I love those gorgeous settees in your first pic, they would be my first choice in my dream home! Hope you have a wonderful weekend lovely ~ Tina xx

  10. Hi again Kym. Thanks so much for the comment about my living room. Yes, I stenciled the picnic basket myself and it took about 10 minutes from start to finish - funny story actually, it was meant to say 1875 though when I cut out the '8' I realised too late that it wasn't gonna work - you need a proper '8' stencil font or the whole middle just falls out - learning all the time! So I used the '5' again to make it 1575. I know you were wanting to incorporate lots of different timber tones with black and white in your home so I hope my living room has given you some confidence. As long as there's a nice clean backdrop and a pretty neutral palette it's pretty easy to achieve.

I love to read your comments.. thanks for taking the time...I appreciate each and every one :)
